Meet Our Team

Picture
Jim Frits
Lead Elder

We’re blessed to realize that our life paths have crossed today! As Elder of the local congregation, I want to personally welcome you and look forward to meeting you. I invite you to join with our church family as we worship, serve, learn, grow, and encourage one another.
Jesus established the church to be a community of believers, a family, to encourage each other in the unity of Christian love and to reflect his love to the world.
If you are searching for a group of people to accept you where you are and challenge you to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “Welcome!” for that is our goal. Come and take part in the Sabbath experience of entering into God’s day of rest. We invite you to fellowship with our church family. Come and join us in sharing the love of Jesus Christ in worship, discipleship, fellowship and growth!

Hector Tavarez
Elder
Hector and Sheri Tavarez have spent the past few years as members of the San Diego Church of God 7th day. Hector has recently been ordained as an Elder and member of the board. His wife Sheri is very active in the church as part of the praise team and serves on many ministry teams.
Their life story is a testament to the transforming power of God. Before being saved by Grace, their lives consisted of drug abuse, anger, and even violence that led to Hector serving 18 years in prison. Sheri kept her family together and stood by Hector the whole time. She has had the struggle and trials of raising a daughter all by herself. But God had another plan for them even while Hector was in prison. During his prison sentence, Hector studied the word of God. Through God's Amazing, and Miraculous Grace, Hector was released and allowed to reunite with his family. He began attending church and served in the ministry wherever he could. He quickly became a leader in the church. They are now so thankful for this church family that has embraced them. They are very humbled by the love that has been shown to them and are excited in welcoming others to our church.

Alex Baez
Worship Coordinator
Alex Baez gave his life to Jesus on the floor of a hospital bathroom in October of 2005. He lives for the moment but will use his testimony to help others from the bondage of sin. He is currently on a move to share God’s glory and saving grace to all who have an ear to listen.
His wife, Rachelle, and their three children love exploring God’s creation together through road-trips and hiking mountains. When he is not with his family, you can find Alex running all throughout Mission Trails training for marathons while also having a passion towards everyone staying healthy for the Lord’s ministry!
